Green Dock Legal Search

Your career is not a transaction.

The green dock is a transition point, a threshold, between where you are and where you want to go.  Whether you want to stay on the dock or journey across the water to the other side, we are right beside you.

At Green Dock, we believe the right career decision isn't the next opportunity, it's finding the right opportunity.  What matters to us is understanding your career goals, where you are, and where you want to go.

01

Perspective Before Opportunity

The recruiting industry often begins with with  opportunity.  We believe the person should come first.  Before asking whether a particular position is right for you, it is worth understanding what you are looking for in the first place.  Sometimes that leads to a new opportunity.  Sometimes it leads to a different conversation with your current firm.  Sometimes it simply brings greater clarity.

Clarity doesn't always require change.  It requires perspective.

02

We Start With the Person

A resume tells us where you've been.  It doesn't tell us where you want to go.  We take the time to understand the motivations, priorities, ambitions, concerns, and circumstances behind the resume.  We want to understand not only what you've accomplished, but what kind of work brings out your best, what you value in the people around you, and what you want your next chapter to look like.

The right opportunity isn't simply one you can get.  It's the one which makes the most sense for you.

03

We Don't Believe in One-Size-Fits-All Recruiting

Some attorneys know exactly what they want.  Others know something needs to change but haven't figured out what.  Some are actively searching, while others are just curious about what might be possible.  Our approach adapts accordingly.  We can help you identify what you're looking for, understand the market, find opportunities worth considering, position your experience, prepare for interviews, evaluate an offer, or think through a decision.

You don't need to arrive with all the answers.  Discovering them together is part of what we're here for.

04

Preparation Is Part of the Search

Finding the right opportunity is only part of the process.  Your resume needs to tell the right story.  Your experience needs to be positioned thoughtfully.  Interviews require more than rehearsed answers.  An offer deserves to be evaluated in the context of your larger goals, and not its headline compensation.

The goal isn't to get you a quick offer.  It's to help you make a good decision about it.

05

We Believe in Honest Counsel

The right answer can be "yes," "no," or not yet."  We will not tell you an opportunity is right because it's available, or encourage a move for our own financial benefit.  Our responsibility is to give you informed perspective with a fiduciary mindset, even when it doesn't lead to a placement.

Trust is earned by what we are willing to tell you, not by what we are able to offer you.

06

We Treat Recruiting as a Craft

We reject the "numbers game."  Good search requires judgement, curiosity, market knowledge, pattern recognition, persistence, and willingness to look beyond the obvious.  We believe in treating each step in our process as carefully as any mater craftsman does in theirs.  The result is feeling less like being matched and more like discovering the opportunity which makes sense.

Thoughtful work produces better matches.

07

The Same Standard Applies to Our Firm Relationships

Our commitmentn to perspective does not stop with candidates.  Law firms need more than resumes.  They need an understanding of the practice they are building, the people who will thrive within it, and the qualities what matter beyond a checklist of credentials.  We take the same thoughtful approach to understanding our clients, their practices, their culture, and their goals.

The best search doesn't fill a seat.  It brings the right people together.

08

Your Career.  Your Decision

We can bring perspective and what we see in the market.  We can introduce possibilities you may have not considered and help you prepare, evaluate, and negotiate, but the decision always remains yours.  That difference matters to us.

The destination is yours.

Our role is helping you reach it.

09

What This Means in Practice

Understand

We begin by understanding the person, the client, the practice, and what actually matters.

Explore

We identify possibilities which make sense, not just opportunities which happen to be available.

Prepare

We help you present your experience clearly and approach conversations with confidence.

We look deeper to consider fit, trajectory, compensation, culture, and risk.

Evaluate

Decide

We give you the perspective and information you need to make the decision that is right for you.
